As you know we are voting now for New 7 Natural Wonders of the world.

One of the candidates is Jeita grotto.

I have visited jeita twice.First time in 2007,second in 2011.And every time i go there it takes my breathe away.

"The Jeita caves have been inhabited since prehistoric times. Ancient vestiges of a foundry were found in a one smaller cave nearby the Nahr al-Kalb river which suggests that this cave was used in prehistory to produce swords.
The modern discovery of the underground river of Jeita in 1836 is credited to Reverend William Thomson (an American missionary) who ventured some 50 metres (160 ft) into the cave. Reaching the underground river, he fired a shot from his gun and the resulting echoes convinced him that he had found a cavern of major importance.

The Jeita Grotto is a compound of interconnected karstic limestone caves in Jeita, Lebanon located 18 kilometres (11 mi) north of Beirut in the Valley of Nahr al-Kalb. The complex consists of two separate caves.

The lower cave was inhabited in prehistoric times but rediscovered in 1836 by Reverend William Thomson; it can only be visited by boat since it channels an underground river which provides fresh drinking water for the inhabitants of Beirut.

The upper cave was discovered in 1958 by Lebanese speleologists. Located 60 metres (200 ft) above the lower cave, it has been accommodated with an access tunnel and a series of walkways to enable tourists safe visitation without disturbing the natural landscape. The upper cave houses the world's largest stalactite, composed of a series of chambers. The largest chamber has a maximum height of 120 metres (390 ft)."

Jeita Grotto nowy z siedmiu cudów świata

W imieniu wszystkich libańczyków proszę o głosy :)

Jak zapewne wiecie trwa plebiscyt na nowe "Siedem cudów świata".Jednym z kandydatów jest zlokalizowana w Libanie Jeita grotto.


"Jaskinie Jeita to układ skrystalizowanych jaskiń w Libanie, znajdujący się 20 km na północ od Bejrutu w Dolinie Nahr al-Kalb (Psia Rzeka). Ta grota składa się z dwóch wapiennych jaskiń, wyższe galerii oraz dolnej jaskini, przez którą płynie rzeka długości 6230 m. W sensie geologicznym, jaskinie tworzą tunel lub trasę ucieczki  podziemnej rzeki. W jaskini i galeriach, działanie wody w wapieniu stworzyło podobne katedrom sklepienia, pełne różnych rozmiarów, kolorów i kształtów stalaktytów i stalagmitów, majestatycznych zasłon i innych fantastycznych formacji skalnych. Całkowita długość jaskini wynosi ponad 9000 m. W jaskiniach znajduje się jeden z największych stalaktytów na świecie (zwis 8,20 m). Grota stanowi ogromną halę, wysokość od stropu do tafli wody wynosi 108 metrów."

Jeita miałam okazję zwiedzić 2 razy.Za pierwszym razem w 2007 roku,drugi raz w tym. Za każdym razem widok tych wszystkich skał, tego "dzieła sztuki" które tworzyła woda od czasów prehistorycznych zapiera dech w piersi. Niestety nie można tam wnosić aparatów ani kamer dlatego też wkleję tu zdjęcia udostępnione przez Jeite.
